Public Notice: Intent to Request an Ed-Flex Waiver

As required by the Ed-Flex waiver application process, South Harrison Community School Corporation shares its intent to apply for an Ed-Flex waiver through the Indiana Department of Education.

This waiver would give our district greater flexibility in how we use federal Title I funds, helping us better support the academic success of all students. With this flexibility, we aim to remove barriers that can limit effective instruction, make the most of our resources, expand learning opportunities, and explore innovative approaches that meet the needs of our students.

We value the input of our community. As part of the Ed-Flex process, we invite parents, staff, and community members to review the proposed waiver and share their thoughts, comments, or questions.

The proposed project would include the addition of a science-based outdoor learning space at Heth-Washington Elementary. This would include raised garden beds accessible to students and the community. The proposed space would also include a weather station for students to collect real time weather data to utilize in both math and science instruction. In addition, the space would include a small learning area with seating and a writable space for interaction and instruction. The primary goal of this learning project is to create a hands-on multidisciplinary space that allows students to connect the standards and skills of their classroom learning to a real life application of reading, math, and science.
