Too often, seniors walk across the graduation stage with no clear sense of what comes next. Many head to college unsure of which major to pursue, while others enter the workforce in jobs that aren’t the right fit. While this reality has become common for young adults, it doesn’t have to be.
At South Harrison, we believe our seniors should graduate not only knowing what’s next, but feeling confident and excited about the path they’ve chosen. That’s why we provide meaningful opportunities for students to discover their talents, passions, and potential through our College and Career Readiness Center. One of these opportunities is CCR Pathway Exploration Day.
Pathway Exploration Day allows eighth-grade students to hear directly from course instructors and current CCR students about each available program. This experience helps students make informed decisions when selecting their high school courses.
Students from Corydon Central High School and South Central Jr.-Sr. High School attended the event, where they toured classrooms, observed live demonstrations, and learned firsthand from students currently enrolled in each pathway.

Highlights of the day included a visit to the Health Sciences lab, where students observed demonstrations such as blood draws, practiced with medical mannequins, and explored professional medical equipment offering a preview of the Health Sciences curriculum. Mr. Spencer’s workshop was also a favorite, as students were impressed by the tools and equipment used by Engineering and Manufacturing pathway students.

In addition, students learned about the following pathways offered at our schools:
Engineering
Construction
Agriculture
Civic Arts
Marketing
Exercise Science
Health Sciences
Business
Education

Through experiences like Pathway Exploration Day, South Harrison is empowering students to plan with purpose and step confidently into their futures. While the future can be scary and full of unknowns, opportunities such as these give students a clearer sense of direction and of what their futures hold in both their academic and professional careers. When students are given the opportunity to explore, discover, and connect their passions to a career path, the future becomes less uncertain and more successful!
