board meeting recap

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the South Harrison Community School Corporation (SHCSC) Board of School Trustees held its May meeting, covering a staff presentation, and a look ahead to upcoming events.

South Central Jr.-Sr. High School Staff Presentation

South Central Jr.-Sr. High School Principal Jenna Hinkle presented to the Board the goals currently in place to help further support the success of South Central students. She outlined plans to continue improving 7th and 8th grade Math ILEARN scores and to maintain efforts to prepare high school students for college or the workforce.

Principal Hinkle also announced encouraging news regarding the 2025 SAT scores. The students’ average score was 949, exceeding the state average. She also highlighted that this was an improvement over the previous year’s average of 904. Seniors aren’t the only ones making strides; Principal Hinkle noted that between 40% and 67% of juniors are currently planning to pursue college after graduation. She attributed these academic gains to more intentional study hall periods, an increase in targeted and timely interventions, and enhanced collaboration among teams, departments, and grade levels.

To conclude the presentation, Industrial Technology teacher, Jeremy Ledford, announced exciting news about an agreement between South Harrison Community School Corporation and Indiana Kentucky Regional Council of Carpenters. This agreement would entail two pathways that students can take to earn a placement into the Central Midwest Carpenters paid apprenticeship program immediately upon graduation.
