The South Harrison Community School Corporation Board of Trustees held its April meeting last week, covering student and staff recognitions, student presentations, important updates, and looking ahead to upcoming events.

Shout-out to Corydon Central High School

Last night, Alex Shaffer, a Senior from Corydon Central High School’s National Future Farmers of America Club presented to the board exciting details of their Pollinator Project as a part of the Agriculture Pathway. Students from Ms. Ulery’s class collaborated with Corydon Central’s Essential Skills class to build flower boxes, plant flowers and place them in a greenhouse. This hands-on project allowed students to learn woodworking skills, tool safety, and how to make correct measurements.

Heth-Washington STEAM Cart

Students and teachers from Heth-Washington Elementary School also presented in last week’s meeting to share their excitement for the MakerPlace STEAM Cart. The STEAM Cart is a mobile lab with tools designed for student’s to get hands-on experience with robotics, coding, navigating engineering challenges, science experiments and math games.

Three elementary students shared their experiences using the STEAM Cart with the Board. They shared that the cart allows them to really get involved in the learning process and has opened a whole new world for them when it comes to careers in science.

Through Samtec funding the cart and The Kentucky Science Center building it, this opportunity was made possible for students to have access to high-quality STEM resources they might not have otherwise. South Harrison emphasizes the importance of having access to the tools students need to learn and succeed and the community support to make it happen.
