career day

Oftentimes, when adults are asked how they discovered their career path, many share a story about a family member, teacher, mentor, or core memory that caused a seed to be planted in their mind and eventually inspire their career choice. Today, at New Middletown Elementary School, we invited professionals in well-known and uncommon industries to encourage students and plant new possibilities of their own with the hopes for students to get excited about their future and learn what it will take for them to achieve their goals.

With a wide variety of experts, every student could discover an industry of interest to them. From a pilot to nurse, farmer to emergency medical services, and more - students were excited about the many possibilities their future could hold. Each guest sparked students’ curiosity with presentations, equipment, Q&A sessions and demonstrations. Students were engaged with guests asking them questions and listening to their stories.

Other guests dived right into the hands-on activities, with several students trying on firefighter equipment and others practicing CPR on a manikin. They also toured the inside of an ambulance and got to check out a fire truck. The opportunities for students to explore their options for the future were endless.

Career Day is not only a fun way for students to learn about what they might want to be when they grow up, but it shows students the one thing every successful person has in common - hard work and perseverance. When students are asked what they want to be when they grow up, we want them to not only have their answer but also to know what it takes to get there and to feel supported for every step of their academic career here at New Middletown and South Harrison.
