Improving student learning is the focal point of every initiative in South Harrison Schools. A district level plan for systemic change stresses "putting the pieces together"; professional development, curriculum alignment, instructional strategies, classroom management, program evaluation, and technology integration. South Harrison is a Standard Bearer School District, a cohort of schools that partner with the Schlechty Center for Leadership in School Reform to focus on improving the quality of work that students are asked to do.

South Harrison has a district professional development plan that focuses on goals of the school improvment initiative.

Following traditions and creating new opportunities are part of South Harrison's culture. Each of South Harrison's schools take pride in preserving the local community's traditions while providing new opportunities for their students. Technology is a key component in providing options and opportunities for students to be successful in life.
