| Hello and welcome to the South Harrison Community School Corporation.
South Harrison CSC is a wonderful learning environment for kids. Our
dedicated staff and supportive community enable our school corporation
to offer a wide range of professional educational services and extra-curricular
activities for our young people. Harrison County truly is a wonderful
place for families. We are the largest of the three public school systems
in Harrison County with an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students.
The Board of School Trustees is committed to the "neighborhood school" concept,
which provides for the operation of schools and classrooms that are small
and caring. South Harrison CSC serves the diverse educational needs of
students, preschool through Grade 12 on eight traditional school campuses,
an alternative high school campus, and the Harrison County Special Education
Cooperative.
For the past five years the South Harrison Community School Corporation has been calling on its school administrators to move rapidly and dramatically from school managers to educational and instructional leaders within their respective schools. Discussions center on providing students with quality work which is challenging and relevant. The State of Indiana has adopted statewide curriculum standards that have been acclaimed nationally for their high level of proficiencies and their potential in preparing students for post secondary experiences in academia as well as the world of work. At South Harrison CSC we have been actively engaged in the alignment of our school corporation's curriculum to these standards. Simultaneously, a broad base initiative has been on going to improve our instructional approaches to teaching in the classroom. To ensure that all students master the skills, we are utilizing several teaching strategies to address the various learning patterns of our students. This differentiated instruction provides a more effective method for teachers and students in what is proven to be successful for student development and in providing meaningful feedback to parents. South Harrison Community School Corporation established its own Professional Development Center in 1997 and places significant energies on the internal development of its educators and administrators. Every teacher is a leader and school administrators are leaders of leaders. Our emphasis is on learning and growing. South Harrison CSC is a vibrant and energized school environment that is truly a "learning organization."
